What are flocculants?

Flocculants improve clarification by gathering the fine coagulated particles (or pin floc), increasing floc size, and increasing these particles’ settling or rise rates.

Flocculation is the second step in clarification and can greatly improve the plant operation by speeding up separation and clarity. Terms such as "floc building" or "floc bridging" describe the flocculation step.

The performance of a flocculant can vary from product to product.  They might have the same charge but not a similar molecular weight.  The difference between the molecular weight can drastically affect the performance of one flocculant over another.  Have your our Water Treatment Specialist help you assess the correct product in your system.

In municipal water supply, industrial processes, or wastewater treatment, flocculants improve sedimentation and filtration, ensuring cleaner, clearer water. They not only enhance water quality but also promote environmental sustainability by reducing chemical usage and waste.

Grades of flocculants offered:

  • Anionic Flocculants: negative charge
  • Nonionic Flocculants: neutral charge
  • Cationic Flocculants: positive charge
